You know, get to the Amalfi Coast on a budget is not so easy.
For this reason, most of the time we prefer to organize trips to remote and distant destinations where the life cost is radically lower than ours: once faced with the highest expenditure, ie that of the air flight, we can easily contain the budget of the travel without having to worry about your wallet.
In Italy things get more difficult: between overnight stays, food and excursions there may be unpleasant surprises.
Here are sometips o organize a low cost Amalfi Coast trip.
1. Travel in low-mid season
Do you want to spend your summer holidays swimming in the beautiful depths of the Amalfi Coast and sunbathing in a small bay isolated from everyone? Here is a dream that cannot easily be realized with a low cost bugdet!
Thinking of organizing a trip to the Amalfi Coast in the summer (mostly in August) is an idea to be removed immediately for two main reasons
– The Amalfi Coast is unlivable in the middle of summer. you would end up stuck in the perennial traffic along the main road 163 under the summer heat and begging for a place handkerchief along the hollows crowded with bathers
– The Amalfi Coast in high season reaches really high prices: between sleeping and eating you can get a capital. In short, you would not be able to enjoy the beauty of this wonderful land.
Try to organize the low-medium season trip: from April to May and from September to October it is still possible enjoy the Amalfi Coast in relative tranquility and – weather permitting – can even escape a dip in the water!
2. Stay inland
The Amalfi Coast is very rich in accommodation facilities: from b & b to hotels of all levels. However, accommodations along the coast start at no less than € 60 a night.
An excellent trick to contain the budget is to go to the neighboring countries of the hinterland: if you have rented a car or a scooter, this is the ideal solution, here the price can vary from 30 to 50 € per night. A great savings! Of course, we will have to grind a little more than km and get away from the coast, but it’s worth it.
3. Eat in local places
Without even realizing it, between breakfasts, lunches and dinners you can go over the travel budget so much … add small snacks and then, do you want to not have a drink by the sea?
Here are some low cost food solutions
– For breakfast and lunch, choose the small bars of the less famous villages or away from the center. An excellent solution is to buy croissants or a “simple” fried pizza in a bakery and enjoy it all in tranquility along the sea with a view that has nothing to envy to the surrounding clubs
– For dinner, escape from the restaurants along the coast that offer the usual tourist menus and favor restaurants with truly “local” food, even better those inland: genuine food and reasonable prices
4. Choose visits and excursions carefully
Try to understand what experiences you are really interested in: better a boat trip to Capri or Ischia or visit the beautiful villas of the villages along the coast? Consult the prices of the excursions and visits online first to understand what is really essential for you. For example, visiting the beautiful villas Rufolo and Cimbrone in Ravello is one of the experiences that we strongly recommend not to miss.
